VP Report

The Guild has been asked to be featured in the March Arizona Quilt Guild Show. For dates, visit their website: https://www.azquiltersguild.org/events.php?ID=243

Selected quilt owners were notified last night! Additional submission details coming soon.

We need volunteers to man the show to answer questions about our Guild and interface with the public.

(Stay tuned: a signup genius will be distributed via our e-blast and listed on the blog.)

Door Prizes --thanks to Kelli, Lara, Kate and Cristy for donating items, winners were aplenty.

Full update on financial situation and annual budget review will happen at next meeting.

2019 DUES will be paid after JAN 1 this year for accounting purposes, we’d like all members to pay their dues ASAP, the deadline for payment before we submit our Guild dues to National is 2/14/19. We only pay them once.

National membership cards will be available once we get them from MQG: this can get you discounts at local retailers, Cristy is updating this information and once the list is created and verified it’ll be on our website.

Hospitality [Kelli] : Kelli did a verbal spotlight on Katie our Guild host for this month.

New Member / Outreach [Erica]-no updates today.

Block of the Month [Laura]

Stellar Stars! It’s not too late to join, in fact the timing is exceptional. Don’t forget that Guild members receive a nice discount on the BOM (plus videos!).

In addition, all 2019 BOM finishers who show their quilt top (it just needs to be pieced) at the Jan 2020 Guild meeting will receive an enamel pin!

Charity [Bonnie & Faunna]: We have a sew in scheduled for March 9th, 2018, sign ups are live on the website!

Rebecca has generously offered a Sew and Learn Lesson and Pillow case kits!

Faunna has generously offered a Sew and Learn Lesson for Zipper Bags!

Let's make Burrito Pillow Cases and Zipper Bags!

Make Two, Take One!

Date: Saturday, March 9.

Location: 9:30 am Pyle Adult Recreation Center--space is limited to 25! Please RSVP.

You will get to make one for charity and one to take home! Supplies will be provided, but if you would like to donate fabric, please feel free to bring some!

**Please bring an extension cord, ironing/pressing surface, zipper foot and a sewing machine.

If you have extra travel toiletries to donate, please bring them so we can stuff the zipper bags for charity. (The bags are 7 x 8 inches.)

Fabric Kits will be provided along with coffee, juice and donuts as a thank you!

Pillow Cases and Zipper Bags will be donated to Turn a New Leaf.

A New Leaf is a nonprofit organization, providing a broad spectrum of support services to help individuals and families in crisis. Last year they served 32,424 residents across the Valley.

Vulnerable families receive emergency help and life-changing programs for a new start – transforming their lives to become thriving members of the community. Their successes include employment, healthier lifestyles, high school diplomas / GEDs, college degrees, life skills and proud self-sufficiency.

A New Leaf is a recognized leader in crisis and family services with 30+ program sites Valley wide – from foster care to children's behavioral health services to financial literacy.

Programs: [Francine & Barry] We announced the vacancy last month and are fortunate that two Guild members volunteered to run programs for this year: welcome Barry and Francine! We are excited to see what you create for us this year.

Programs overview:

  • Cristy’s Workshop reschedule: tba

  • Programs chairs suggested having Guild demos on the sewing time before the meetings, they will work on some things so members can improve their skills and get exposure to a variety of techniques.

  • Announcement of the Guild’s desire to host Tula Pink and how this is a long term project that we’d like to get working on right away.

Bee [Faunna/Tracy] : Queen bee assignments were handed out at the meeting. It’s not too late to join!

Swaps [Barbara & Clare]

  • March Swap is up on the website/blog, it’s a thread catcher.

  • April is an Improv Sachet

  • June & September swaps are the 2019 Swap link (under projects) on the Guild Website.

Barb volunteered to run the snacks for us this year! Thanks Barb, we appreciate our members volunteering to help the Guild run smoothly.

Please note at the March meeting Gretchen’s husband will be available to take photos of quilts. He’s an amateur photographer that will take photos, edit them and email a JPG to you, there is no charge for his services.
